The New Mexico Attorney General agreed with the complaints submitted by Karen Kiser of our group about lack of openness in Town meetings. The Town received a letter from the Attorney General ’s office, stating “…we have identified what appears to be a consistent pattern of deficient specificity in agendas and motions to close meetings” and directing the town to remedy their lack of openness. The fact that the Town has been discussing controversial matters like the hostile takeover of the EPCOR water system in closed meetings without even notifying the public that they are doing so on the meeting agendas has been a huge sore point to residents and is a clear violation of the Open Meetings Act.
