There is no nice way to say it, the mayor and town staff are lying to the public and elected officials regarding their efforts take the EPCOR water system through eminent domain. WATCH: This short video of a recent town council meeting shows both the mayor and town clerk denying the town is seeking funding.

When asked by Councilor Audrey Jaramillo a direct question, “Can you confirm or deny that Carla [Salazar, deputy clerk] is seeking funding?”

The mayor stumbles on his words as he claims, “I don’t know that we are seeking any funding.”

Next, the town clerk states, “…we [the town] are not seeking funding…”

However, documents obtained through IPRA (Inspection of Public Records Act) from financing entities show that the town has been and is  ACTIVELY seeking funding for a hostile take over of EPCOR.

Additionally, on June 11, deputy clerk Salazar in an email to Councilor Abraham states, “I state emphatically, I have not made any application for funding.” However, documents from financing agencies clearly show the town is actively pursuing funding. Should an elected town councilor seeking information about the status of town actions on EPCOR be told a half truth from a town employee regarding town actions?

At the very least, when asked questions about seeking funding, the mayor and town staff should provide an accurate answer and admit they are exploring options. Instead they are trying to skirt the question and say they have not applied. How open and honest does that feel from your mayor and government?
