Abrams/Holle VOTE AGAINST Citizens’ Voting Rights
FAIL – Despite hundreds of emails from concerned Edgewood citizens asking the Council to protect their voting rights in this November’s election, Councilors John Abrams and Linda Holle REFUSED. At the June 23, 2021 council meeting, Councilors Sherry Abraham and Audrey Jaramillo voted FOR an Election Resolution that would give citizens the right to VOTE for ALL FIVE commissioners in November. Abrams and Holle voted AGAINST it! Then, at the July 29, 2021 Special Meeting, both Abrams and Holle again failed to support the community’s call to protect At-Large voting in Edgewood — each casting a vote AGAINST the resolution presented by Councilor Sherry Abraham, and seconded by Audrey Jaramillo (which they both voted in favor of).
When asked why at the June 23 meeting, Abrams said he wanted to continue to wait for an opinion from the NM Attorney General, and Abrams added he would “sit on the AG’s front porch” until he got one (we hope he wasn’t implying he would assert undue influence). Holle said she too wanted to hear what the Attorney General says on the matter.
To date, Abrams’ agency shopping has been unsuccessful at getting either the NM Secretary of State or the NM Attorney General to interfere in this MUNICIPAL matter. In fact, both departments have repeatedly and rightfully referred the local issue back to Edgewood Town Council for a decision.
