A convoluted meeting chaired by the removed mayor, John Bassett. This must be seen to be believed. John Bassett chairs meeting a ‘mayor’ depite being removed from office on October 14, 2020. Bassett makes numerous tie-breaking votes as needed to move his agenda forward, backed by similar votes Councilors John Abrams and Linda Holle, and questionable advice from town attorney Marcus Rael (stating he things the court’s decision is wrong).

SUMMARY: In the meeting, Bassett, Abrams and Holle, all vote to use tax-payer money to defend the ‘mayor’ in both his personal and professional capacity, hiring the law firm of Mackey Law & Policy to defend the ‘mayor’. They further vote to use taxpayer money to hire Robles, Rael and Anaya to defend the town from enforcing it’s own nepotism ordinance against Bassett (penalty is removal from office). The money request that is made and approved by Bassett, Abrams, and Holle is right at the upper limit under the procurement code.
